ATSIC S02E48 - Best of 100
Well, here it is, almost the end of season 2, 100 episodes deep. 52 in Season 1, now 48 in Season 2.
When I started this thing I had no idea if I’d keep it going or not, but figured it was worth the extra effort to find out just how many plates I could keep spinning. As it turned out, other plates have crashed into a thousand little pieces (I was working running a music program at a supervised consumption site which is now closed due to provincial government funding cuts), but #ATSIC continues along, documenting the new releases on the indie scene week by week. I’ve been enormously surprised with how much dope music comes out every week.
Big ups to CKXU, Adrianna, and everyone else over there for giving me the keys to this thing and letting me drive the bus remote controlled from my living room. It’s been a fun learning curve. Maybe one day the Season 1 archives will come out, but for now I’m happy making new shows rather than looking back too much, and it might be best that those episodes were one and dones. The show started in December of 2019, just to have that in the records somewhere before I forget.
This episode is sort of a “best of” but it’s not like i chose my favourite 50 songs and played them. Whittling this playlist down took the better part of a week. All told the “Best of ATSIC” playlist was around 14 hours long. Just ridiculous.
So I separated it into narrower categories.
This 3 hour long episode was originally going to be 2 hours. It was all from the “Boom Bap” playlist, which was 7 or 8 hours long. Beyond that it was a pretty random process of scrolling the list while listening to the ending of the last song trying to figure out what I can play after it. Real DJ’s doing this shit on the fly are talented. I took like a week and put this together and I’ll probably still realize I missed some gems in a week or two.
I’m not done with this “Best of” steez for the show. Since I have a few more playlists, I might as well actually use them. Next up “ACAB ATSIC”. I think the playlist was almost 2 hours long, so I’ll have to make some cuts to keep it clocking in at 57 minutes. Stay tuned, and thanks for checking this and all the other episodes.
Stay Up.
