ATSIC S05E32 - Booming
I’ve started a mailing list! If you want to get a reminder when a new episode of #ATSIC drops on Mixcloud, sign up at the bottom of the page, or hit me up on IG with your email. I’ll make sure you stay in the loop.
Below, you’ll find the track list with the artists and their hometowns. You can follow along easily here or hit the … to see the track list while you listen on the Mixcloud app.
Plenty more boombap for you this week, as DJ Dice once again delivers a mix of the best new Hip Hop we could collect. It’s 100 percent Canadian for the second week in a row, which means that each track features at least one artist from the frozen North - there’s still some Americans in the mix. Ottawa’s Aspects recruited Killah Priest for a single, so that starts things off and counts as a Wu feature in my books. After that it’s new music from Ivason Black, Ayoo Bigz, Che Uno, ThisIsHipHopp, Chubs with Asun Eastwood, Daniel Son & Finn, Dope Sasquatch with Mickey Factz & Halfcut, K.O. Strat, New Villain & Onaje Jordan, The Guardians of Boombap, Hungry, OldBoy Rhymes with Lee Reed, Wordburglar, and new new from Mickey O’Brien & Uncle Fester.
To finish out the mix, there’s an #ATSIC EXCLUSIVE called “Knee High” from Fester & Stephen Hero’s upcoming “The Squeeze” album that you can’t hear elsewhere until the whole project drops on Oct 11!
There’s a “Making of #ATSIC” video posted lower down the page. Come through on Twitch weekday afternoons to hang out and hear new release rap as I dig through piles to find gems, game, record my own rhymes, make these episodes, or do interviews.
Season 3 of Fly in Formation is back to weekly episodes, with new guests calling in to talk on Twitch every Tuesday as I continue the quest to learn more about each local scenes. You can Subscribe on Twitch, skip the ads and join the community in chat while the interviews happen - ask questions or whatever else, I try and read it.
After the music this time, we’ve got a new episode of Fly in Formation, where I talk with Deuce Fantastick, yet another well established emcee from Edmonton. We spoke about his upcoming album “Soul Not 4 Sale”, his history with Peep Game selling 30k mixtapes hand to hand on the streets of YEG, his influences, collaborators, opinions, and a bunch of other important stuff. You can also find the interview on YouTube in the FiF playlist, along with past episodes.
I buy every track I play on ATSIC, unless an artist sends it to me directly. Streaming pays next to nothing, so it’s crucial to support independent artists by buying their music, tickets, or merch. This helps them keep making music instead of having to take on extra shifts at their day jobs.
Independent shows like After the Smoke is Clear need support from people who appreciate our efforts. If you like discovering new music without having to navigate algorithms, consider donating through PayPal to keep the show going. Every dollar helps me buy the tracks I feature on the show, supporting both ATSIC and the indie artists I play.
If you can’t donate, that’s cool—just spreading the word to a friend helps a ton. Thanks to everyone who’s been supporting, whether financially or by sharing the show.
Stay up.
