ATSIC S04E10: Get This Content

Hitters on deck for this episode, a whole lineup of em. Exclusives to drop too, so pay attention, some of these are from projects that drop in the coming weeks, and they won’t disappoint you.

100 percent under-discovered, canadian artists on this one too, right from the traditional Wutang starter track (I still do that every episode). I was very pleasantly surprised to see Young Stitch on a song with U-God’s son Intell. I think it was the second time I’d see the 2nd Generation Wu general featured on a canadian’s track, (the first being a track called “Where It’s At” by a group called Primal Winds). That’s a trend I like to see. Maybe being played and @ mentioned every second week by me on IG has convinced Intell that he’s got fans who want to hear him working with indie artists up here. A guy can dream.

Exciting stuff: I got to drop the title track from West coast indie legend AzraelRapsGood & The Dirty Sample’s new LP “Content” which features one of my favourite emcees from Edmonton, Touch. If you liked the lead off singles, “Gold”, “One Size Fits All”, and “Dirty Drops of Mud” (I played them all on previous episodes of #ATSIC), make sure to check out/pick up the album when it drops on April 21, because it’s full of solid boom bap and bars from start to finish. No nonsense at all, just golden Hip Hop. I’m looking forward to talking to Azrael later tonight over on Twitch (04/18/23 - 9pm MST on http://www.twitch.tv/doobyis). The video will hit my Youtube soon enough, and audio of the interview should make it onto the next #ATSIC mix.

The other exclusive I got to play was sent over from the homie OP Yeti, a Victoria based artist from a camp I’ve played a lot over the years. He let me have his new EP “Laser Car Accident” (dropping April 30), and all 5 tracks were something I could have played, but I went with one that was extra bar heavy called “Amethyst Remix (Yeti is a Spaz)”. They all spazzed if you ask me. I’ll be talking with OP Yeti next Tuesday, April 25 at 3pm on Twitch for a #FlyInFormation interview too, so tap in.

A sorta pseudo exclusive from Switch as well, I suppose, because it won’t hit the streaming platforms for a while, but is available on Bandcamp for his day ones, “Don’t Trust Em” finds the BC based emcee talking about the current politically charged state of the world, not being able to believe what we read ect ect. It’s my favourite type of song from him, since I’m not huge on horrorcore stuff, which is another lane he often stomps through.

Beyond the unreleased stuff, the rest of the mix is all brand new this week.. or the vast majority is, anyways. I think I played a cut off Wordburglar’s McGuffin Device”, which dropped in February, so that was the odd track out, but it features Esoteric from Czarface and it slaps. I probably didn’t give that project enough love honestly, it’s dope as hell, WB is one of the most clever lyricists I can think of and that album was worth the wait/hype. He mentioned it when I talked to him last year.

Tariiiq has a new jam on here that I almost named the whole mix after, because “Boom Bap Vibe 4 Da Soul” pretty much sums it up. Real talk from a real emcee.

I came across a new to me artist named King Reign because he has a fresh release with Saukrates & Kardinal Offishall. When I hit his socials I saw that he’s passed on, so RIP up to him. Glad to see some rap royalty giving him his flowers with a feature, hopefully his family is well supported.

On the other hand, an artist I’ve been watching closely, Gritfall, who is the newest and youngest (he’s 17) member of Raz Fresco’s BKRSCLB label, dropped a new lead single for his upcoming LP “Skate Home” (April 30 drop), and it’s exactly what I expect from that camp, top tier lyrical dexterity over top of grimy sampled production. He did the beat himself too, as well as the rest of the beats for his upcoming album. Looking forward to talking with him for a #FlyInFormation interview on May 2 at 3pm over on Twitch.

New released singles from Lxvndr, Tachichi & Moves; Mike Shabb & Nicholas Craven; Stephen Hero; Johnny Bizzness; Ivason Black; Ezza of Choom Gang; Kris the $pirit; and Emskee & Milkcrate round out the rest of the mix perfectly.

Proud of this one. There is no representation of the canadian Hip Hop scene that pays this much attention week by week to the entire scene coast to coast. This is a who’s who of talent across the country, and it’s not out of the ordinary, I do this every week. Tap in. Discover some artists. Tell a friend.
